We have had our house and cars and business insured with Brokerforce since 1972. Our children were added to our policies when they became licensed, and continued with Brokerforce when they moved out on their own. It has always been comforting to us, both for ourselves and as parents, to know that we would always get personal service, good friendly advice, and the best coverage at the best price available. The Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada has had a long association with Brokerforce as our national insurance broker. They also service the insurance needs of many of our Fellowship churches across Canada. Brokerforce has made a special effort to understand the special needs of churches and take time and effort to customize policies for them, always making sure there is adequate coverage. Brokerforce arranged insurance for my first car, first apartment, and my home based business. They took the time to look at my individual insurance needs, explain different coverages, and provided policies that were tailored to fit my situation.
Brokerforce has insured our congregation for over ten years, from rented space to our own building. Our new church building, fully insured, was at the wallboard stage and we were looking forward to using our new premises soon. An arsonist set a fire which burnt down most of the church. Within hours of the fire Brokerforce had an adjuster on the site who worked with the architect and the building superintendent. Decisions were made on site to move ahead as quickly as possible. The site was cleaned in a matter of days and construction begun again to a completed building. Brokerforce gave Westney Heights Baptist Church personal service and went to bat for us to ensure our claim was expedited and construction could begin again ASAP. I can recommend Brokerforce highly. I have always found Brokerforce to be forthright and honest in their quotations, and fair and reasonable in their pricing. Claim service has always been efficient and caring; I always have the sense that they are ‘on our side.’ I recommend Brokerforce to you without hesitation. Just a short note to express to you our deep appreciation for the wonderful service you have provided In Touch Ministries for our insurance needs regarding general insurance and liability insurance for 12 years. You have a wonderful staff who are very helpful when we need advice or counsel, from Bonny who directs the calls to Karen who handles our account. It is a pleasure to work with your company.
Sam Quinones was recently on Econtalk and in the Atlantic talking about methamphetamines and homelessness. He points out that “old” meth was made from ephedrine and that “new” meth is made from a chemical called Phenylacetone or P2P. Ephedrine meth was like a party drug. You could normally kind of more or less hang onto your life. You had a house, you had a job. P2P meth was nothing like that. It was a very sinister drug. It brought you inside. You didn’t want to be around other people. You wanted to just kind of be alone with whatever bizarre thoughts your mind was now cooking up, and conspiracies. I was curious about this. What do we know about the difference between old meth and P2P meth? What evidence is there that these have a chemical difference? In the before times, meth was made with ephedrine or pseudoephedrine. However, in 2006, the US banned over-the-counter sales of pseudoephedrine, and in 2008 Mexico banned almost all sales.
Methamphetamine happens to be one of those molecules. The one that produces the effects we call “meth” is d-methamphetamine (d-meth). That’s the one that increases dopamine in the brain, causing euphoria. ’t nearly as much fun. Anyway, a synthesis that turns P2P into meth will create an equal mixture of d-meth and l-meth, basically because atoms bouncing around randomly are equally likely to end up in either of two equally low-energy configurations. Older synthesis methods using ephedrine would create only d-meth. Here’s data from the DEA again, where “potency” is the percentage of d-meth among all meth. Be careful here: Take a sample of meth that’s ¼ d-meth, ¼ l-meth, and ½ other impurities. This would count as 50% potent because 50% of the meth is d-meth. ’ll talk about below. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find any data going back further to before when P2P meth was introduced. It’s likely that d-meth was higher before P2P synthesis become popular, though this paper analyzes meth in Australia and finds that, for some reason, ephedrine-based meth often has fair amounts of l-meth, too.
